Steve Haley Elected New Chair of Dickson County School Board; Aaron Parker Named Vice Chair

Dickson, TN — The Dickson County School Board elected Steve Haley as chair and Aaron Parker as vice chair during its September 17, 2026 meeting, selecting its officers for the new board year.

Haley was nominated for chair without a competing nomination. After the board voted, he thanked members for their confidence.

Parker also accepted his nomination, and the board elected him vice chair without a competing nomination. Later in the meeting, Parker thanked fellow members and said he would serve to the best of his ability. He congratulated Haley and encouraged him to continue sharing his experience during board discussions.

The board also reelected Sherri Thiel as its legislative liaison. The liaison follows legislative matters affecting the school district and serves as a point of contact for the board on those issues.

Near the end of the meeting, Haley proposed holding a voluntary, publicly announced Saturday meeting for board members to discuss their goals and expectations for the year. He said the discussion could cover what members expect from the chair and one another, as well as a possible board self-evaluation. No date was set.

Haley also said a possible extension of the director of schools’ contract would be placed on the board’s October agenda. He said the board must provide 15 days’ public notice before discussing the contract.
