Dickson City Council Approves Repairs To Historic War Memorial Building
The Dickson City Council unanimously approved plans on January 5th, 2026 to move forward with repairs to the city’s War Memorial Building, authorizing work aimed at addressing long-standing structural concerns and preventing further deterioration of the historic property.
The council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign a project addendum with Southern Architecture Workshop, LLC to provide design services for remediation work at the building under a Master Services Agreement.
City Administrator David Travis said the project will focus on reworking the flat roofs of the building and addressing other points of water infiltration that have caused ongoing issues. Water intrusion can lead to structural damage if left unaddressed, making the repairs a critical step in preserving the building.
The War Memorial Building is one of the city’s historic assets, and officials said the planned work is intended to protect the structure from further damage while extending its usable life. The approval does not authorize construction itself, but allows the city to complete the design phase necessary before repair work can move forward.
The vote was approved unanimously, with no opposition from council members.
The council’s action reflects a broader effort to balance infrastructure needs with historic preservation, ensuring that aging public buildings are maintained while remaining functional for future use.
The City Council is scheduled to meet next at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2. Regular council meetings are broadcast on the Community Access Channel on Comcast 19.
