Dickson’s Buckner Park Phase I Improvements Finish Under Budget

Dickson, TN — The first phase of improvements at J. Dan Buckner Park was completed under budget, according to action taken by the Dickson City Council at its Jan. 5 meeting.

Council members unanimously approved Change Order No. 3 to the city’s contract with FTM Contracting for construction of Phase I of the Buckner Park project, setting the final construction cost at $2,782,200.89.

City Administrator David Travis said the final change order includes a $15,000 deduction in liquidated damages, bringing the total project cost to nearly $69,000 less than the original contract price.

Liquidated damages are financial penalties written into construction contracts and are typically assessed when a project is not completed within the agreed-upon timeline. In this case, the deduction reduced the city’s final cost while still allowing the project to reach completion.

The Buckner Park Phase I project represents one of the city’s larger recent park investments, and its completion under budget stands out amid a broader slate of major capital projects currently moving through planning and construction phases.

The council’s approval of the final change order formally closes out Phase I construction costs.

All votes related to the change order were approved unanimously.

The City Council is scheduled to meet next at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2. Regular council meetings are broadcast on the Community Access Channel on Comcast 19.
