Environmental Testing Moves Dickson’s Aquatic Center and City Center Projects Forward
Dickson, TN — Two of Dickson’s most anticipated, and most expensive, proposed projects advanced quietly on January 5th, 2026 as the Dickson City Council unanimously approved contracts for Phase II environmental site assessments tied to a planned aquatic and recreation center and a new city center.
The council approved separate resolutions authorizing the mayor to sign proposals with ECS Southeast, LLC to conduct Phase II Environmental Site Assessments for the two locations: Henslee Park, the proposed site of the aquatic and recreation center, and South Main Street, the proposed site of the city center.
Phase II environmental site assessments are a required step in the development process and typically involve more detailed testing following earlier evaluations. Environmental clearance is necessary before construction can proceed on public projects of this scale.
Although the votes drew little discussion during the meeting, the approvals represent incremental but important progress for projects that have generated significant public interest. Both the aquatic/recreation center and the city center are part of a broader slate of capital improvements the city has been advancing through planning, site work, and financing steps.
The council’s actions do not authorize construction or funding for the projects, but instead allow the city to gather required environmental data that will inform future decisions. Without completing environmental assessments, large-scale public construction projects cannot move forward.
All votes related to the Phase II environmental site assessments were approved unanimously.
Additional actions related to the aquatic center and city center are expected as environmental work is completed and the projects continue through the planning process.
The City Council is scheduled to meet next at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2. Regular council meetings are broadcast on the Community Access Channel on Comcast 19.
