Dickson Electric Board Recognizes Leadership During Winter Storm Fern

Dickson, TN — The Dickson Electric System Board of Public Utilities formally recognized General Manager Darrell Gillespie during its March 3, 2026 meeting for his leadership during Winter Storm Fern, a severe winter weather event that struck Middle Tennessee earlier this year.

During the meeting, board members presented Gillespie with a letter of appreciation acknowledging the role he played in coordinating the utility’s response to the storm, which left thousands of residents without power across the region.

Winter Storm Fern brought dangerous ice and snow to the area in January, damaging power lines and infrastructure across Dickson Electric’s service territory. At the height of the storm, more than 20,000 customers lost electricity, making it one of the largest restoration efforts in recent years.

According to the board, the restoration effort required extensive planning, coordination, and long hours from crews working in difficult winter conditions. Dickson Electric employees and contractors worked around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

Board members praised the leadership and organization that helped crews respond effectively during the emergency.

“The planning, coordination, and dedication of our team made it possible for crews to safely and efficiently restore service to our communities,” the board said in a statement recognizing the effort.

The recognition also highlighted the work of the utility’s line crews, staff, and outside contractors who were called in to assist during the widespread outages.

“We are proud of the employees and contractors who worked tirelessly to serve our customers during this historic storm,” the board added.

The presentation served as a public acknowledgment of the critical role utility workers play during severe weather events, when power restoration becomes essential to public safety and everyday life.

Dickson Electric System provides power to customers across Dickson County and surrounding areas. Severe winter storms like Fern often require coordinated responses between local crews, contractors, and regional utilities to restore service as quickly as possible.

The board’s recognition underscores the importance of preparation and leadership when major weather events impact local infrastructure.
