Dickson County Schools Working to Fill Twenty-One Teaching Positions
Dickson, TN — Dickson County Schools was working to fill twenty one teaching positions as the district prepared for students to return for the 2026–27 school year.
District officials reported the vacancies during the Dickson County Board of Education meeting on Thursday, July 23.
The district had ten openings among its regular elementary, middle and high school teaching positions. It also had eleven special-education teaching vacancies.
Officials said they had potential candidates for six of the special-education openings, which could reduce the number of unfilled positions before the first day of school.
The vacancy totals represented a snapshot at the time of the meeting and could change as the district continues interviewing and hiring applicants.
A board member also asked whether any of the regular vacancies were for third-grade teachers. District officials said there were no third-grade openings at that time.
The district confirmed that certified teachers were in place to fulfill the requirements of its prekindergarten grant.
Transportation staffing was another concern discussed during the meeting. The school system reported six openings for bus drivers and substitutes, along with openings for bus monitors. The transportation department was also expected to have three mechanic vacancies following the departure of its lead mechanic.
District leaders said hiring would continue as employees prepared for the beginning of the new school year. Students were scheduled to return on Monday, August 3.
