Creek Wood High School CTE Building Delayed Until October

Dickson, TN — Completion of the new career and technical education building at Creek Wood High School has been delayed until at least October, according to Dickson County Schools officials.

Director of Schools Dr. Christie Southerland provided the update during the Dickson County Board of Education’s July 23 meeting. Southerland said she had recently learned that the CTE building likely would not be completed until October because portions of the project still need to be corrected.

“We’ll keep you abreast of that, but I just learned that this past week,” Southerland told the board.

The announcement prompted a board member to question how long the project has been delayed.

“Wasn’t it supposed to be done October last year?” the board member asked.

District officials acknowledged that it was.

The approximately 7,200-square-foot building is under construction on the Creek Wood High School campus in Charlotte. Plans for the facility include foundations, electrical systems, heating and ventilation. The building is intended to expand career and technical education opportunities for Creek Wood students while also providing improvements for the school’s soccer programs.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held on December 5, 2024.

The meeting discussion did not include a detailed explanation of the work that must be corrected. Officials also did not provide information about whether the delay will increase the project’s cost or whether the construction contract includes penalties related to the missed completion date.

It remains unclear how the delayed opening will affect Creek Wood’s career and technical education programs during the first months of the 2026–27 school year.

Students returned on August 3, and the new facility could remain unavailable for approximately the first two months of classes.

The district is expected to continue monitoring the work and provide additional updates to the Board of Education as the project moves closer to completion.
