Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall Coming to Dickson This Weekend

Dickson, TN — A powerful tribute to the men and women who served during the Vietnam War will arrive in Dickson this week as the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall makes a five day stop at the Dickson VFW Post 4641.

The event, hosted by the Middle Tennessee Veterans Coalition, will take place June 25-29 at the VFW grounds located at 215 Marshall Stuart Drive. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is a 3/5-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Stretching nearly 300 feet in length and standing more than six feet tall, the memorial bears the names of more than 58,000 American service members who lost their lives during the Vietnam War.

Organizers say the memorial offers a unique opportunity for veterans, family members, and community residents to experience the reflection and healing associated with the national monument without traveling to the nation's capital.

"This may be the only opportunity many people have to experience The Wall," one organizer said. "It serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served and those who never returned home."

The event represents the culmination of a year long fundraising effort by the Middle Tennessee Veterans Coalition. Because of community support and donations, organizers have been able to bring the memorial to Dickson and make it available to visitors free of charge.

The Wall will arrive Thursday morning, June 25, escorted into Dickson by the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club of Tennessee. Organizers expect the procession to be one of the highlights of the event.

Throughout the five-day visit, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an opening ceremony, special tribute activities, and other commemorative events honoring Vietnam veterans and their families.

Coalition leaders also expressed appreciation to Dickson VFW Post 4641 for making the event possible.

"We are profoundly grateful to the VFW Dickson for their extraordinary support and patriotism in allowing us to host this significant national tribute on their grounds," organizers said.

Community members are encouraged to volunteer during the event, help guide visitors, or make donations to assist with final event expenses. Organizers are also asking residents to spread the word among family members, friends, and veteran organizations.

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be open to visitors June 25-29 at Dickson VFW Post 4641, 215 Marshall Stuart Drive in Dickson.
