Dickson County Fire & Rescue Awarded $35,745 Grant for Life Saving Rescue Equipment
Dickson, TN — Dickson County Fire & Rescue will soon have new tools designed to save lives faster after the department received a $35,745 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.
The funding will be used to purchase a battery-operated spreader and cutter, specialized rescue equipment commonly used during vehicle extrications. The tools allow first responders to cut through crushed metal and pry apart wreckage to free trapped victims after serious crashes.
Fire officials say the equipment will significantly improve response times and safety during emergencies — especially on busy roadways where seconds often determine outcomes.
“We are extremely grateful to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs restaurant for this vital support,” said Fire Chief Scotty Harrell. “Having reliable, up-to-date equipment enhances our ability to protect lives and better serve our community.”
Faster rescues when seconds matter
Unlike traditional hydraulic rescue tools that require hoses and power units, battery-powered equipment can be carried directly to the patient and operated immediately. That reduces setup time and allows firefighters to begin extrication faster — a critical advantage in severe crashes involving entrapment.
Department leaders say the new equipment will strengthen emergency response across the county, improving both firefighter safety and patient survival chances.
Part of a nationwide public safety effort
The grant comes through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, a nonprofit organization created by the founders of Firehouse Subs in 2005. The foundation provides life-saving equipment, training, prevention education, and disaster relief funding to first responders nationwide.
Since its founding, the organization has awarded more than 7,100 grants totaling over $105 million to public safety agencies across the United States and Puerto Rico.
Local officials noted that the funding ultimately comes from restaurant guests and community support efforts that help equip first responders in communities like Dickson.
Strengthening local emergency response
For Dickson County residents, the new tools mean improved rescue capabilities during some of the county’s most dangerous incidents — serious vehicle crashes along major corridors such as Highway 46, Highway 48 and Interstate-40.
Fire officials emphasized that modern rescue equipment is one of the most important investments a department can make, particularly as traffic volumes and call numbers continue to increase.
With the grant secured and equipment expected to be deployed soon, Dickson County Fire & Rescue says the upgrade represents a direct investment in community safety — one that could make a life-or-death difference the next time crews respond to a major accident.
