DCHS Roof Damage Worse Than Expected, School Board Told
Dickson, TN — A section of the roof at Dickson County High School has more damage than initially expected, and school officials are preparing to give the Dickson County School Board a more detailed report next month.
The issue was raised during the maintenance portion of the board's August meeting, when administrators provided a brief update on the condition of the high school roof.
School officials said they have been meeting regarding the roof and that they expected to discuss the situation at the next planning session.
"The section that we were looking at is showing a little bit more damage than what was expected," the board was told.
No estimate was provided during the meeting for how much it could cost to repair or replace the affected section of roof.
Officials also did not provide details about the exact extent of the damage, what caused it, whether water has entered the building or whether classrooms or other areas of DCHS have been affected.
Those questions could become clearer when the board receives the more extensive report at its next planning session.
Facilities Remain Major Issue for School System
The roof issue comes as Dickson County continues to make significant investments in school facilities.
During the same meeting, the director of schools thanked the Dickson County Commission for recently approving up to $28.5 million in borrowing for school projects.
Of that amount, $27.5 million is designated for the Charlotte Middle School project, while another $1 million is intended for a land purchase.

The board took no action on the DCHS roof during the meeting, and there was no lengthy discussion following the update.
