Nashville, TN — The Dickson County Cougars took the field for the first time in 2026 on Saturday February 14th, opening the preseason with a 6-2 loss to Christ Presbyterian Academy. While the game did not count in the standings, it marked the first live competition of the year and gave the coaching staff a long look at nearly the entire roster.

Dickson County matched CPA hit-for-hit, 10-10, but couldn’t string together timely offense until late. The Cougars broke through in the seventh inning with both of their runs after being held scoreless through six frames.

Williams and Potter led the offense with two hits each. Potter drove in a run and delivered the team’s lone triple, while Williams added a double. Brown also had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. True added a stolen base as the Cougars showed patience by drawing five walks, though 14 strikeouts reflected early-season timing still coming together.

Lots of arms see action

The preseason format allowed Dickson County to rotate heavily on the mound, with 14 pitchers each working a one-inning appearance.

Brown opened with a scoreless inning and two strikeouts. Scoreless outings also came from Potter, Pitts (three strikeouts), True, B. Williams, Clark, Cliburn, Schumann and Attenberger (two strikeouts).

CPA did most of its damage in the middle and late innings, scoring once in the sixth before adding runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth. Fisher allowed two runs, while Ferrell, Hendricks, Sanders and Harber each surrendered a run.

Overall, Cougar pitchers recorded 14 strikeouts and allowed six runs, five earned.

First look of the season

Although the result went to CPA, Dickson County showed encouraging early signs:

  • Even in hits (10-10)

  • Multiple multi-hit performances

  • Nine scoreless pitching appearances

  • Strong strikeout totals on the mound

The difference ultimately came in situational hitting, as CPA capitalized late while the Cougars left runners on base.

While the opener serves strictly as a preseason evaluation, nearly the entire roster saw action, which is a positive. Dickson County will now look to sharpen its approach and sort out roles as the regular season approaches.
